Traffic planner (operations and dispatch)
Plan and dispatch 25 vans and our carriers network from the Smethwick office, 24/7 operation.
About the role
The traffic planner is the centre of the operation. You take bookings from the website, phone and WhatsApp, pick the right van and driver, and get the driver moving within 30 to 60 minutes on same-day jobs. Planned work is built into routes a day or more ahead so the fleet is used well.
You work from our office in Smethwick with the transport management system, live GPS tracking and the carriers network for anything larger than a Luton. When a job needs a 7.5 tonne, 18 tonne or artic, you source it, check it and keep the customer informed as if it were our own van.
This role suits someone who has planned a van or truck fleet before, keeps calm when three customers call at once, and likes seeing a full board cleared by the end of the shift. There is no broker layer above you: the decisions on which van, which driver and which route are yours, and you see the result the same day.
